Why "Why Anywhere?"

I started this blog to chronicle my year abroad in Bologna, Italy in 2006-2007 and take a hard look at my cliché and irrational love for everything Italian. I'm still cultivating my relationship with Italy although the year abroad is long since over, and still writing occasionally here.

Because travel inevitably leads me to the postmodernist way of thinking that nothing has meaning until we ascribe meaning to it, and no culture is superior (or inferior) to another, it helps to anchor my thoughts in writing so that I can create meaning from all the shades of gray that lose myself in.

I like to write about food and chronicle my travels, as well as my thinking about social justice and current events. I've just transitioned from being a psuedo-student in Santa Cruz, CA to being an intern, yes, a bonafide intern, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
